The announcement by the Sudanese People's Army rebels yesterday of their readiness to conduct talks with the Sudanese government about a cease-fire in the south of the country, even if under certain conditions, is considered a positive sign by the rebels that requires the Sudanese political leaders to discuss it in depth and work to open a dialogue with the leader of the rebellion, John Garang, to find a comprehensive and radical solution The problem that poses a threat to the sovereignty and stability of the country.

The Sudanese government's rejection of the peace agreement signed by the Democratic Unionist Party last November with the leader of the rebellion in the south in the absence of an alternative to this agreement had a profound impact on the crisis currently taking place in Sudan, which also led to the resignation of the Sudanese Minister of Defense in protest against the deteriorating conditions of the army and its inability to resolve The war is in his favor in the south because of the severe shortage he suffers from in men and equipment.

This war has created many economic, political, security and social problems and difficulties for Sudan. Thousands have died and several millions have been displaced from their villages and cities because of its continuation without finding a peaceful solution to it.

Therefore, the opportunity is ripe this time, especially with the response of the rebels to what the Sadiq al-Mahdi government announced of its desire for a cease-fire in the south. Therefore, all political leaders must give priority to the supreme interest of Sudan over all partisan considerations and work to end this war.

We are certain that the commitment of all leaders in Sudan to democratic dialogue is a means to save the country, which will miss the opportunity for the foreign forces lurking in Sudan and aiming to undermine its identity, belief and democratic experience. The situation in Sudan, taking advantage of the current circumstances.
