The Conference of Foreign Ministers of Islamic Countries, which began in Riyadh yesterday, is of great importance because it is being held amidst sensitive regional and international circumstances at a time when Islamic action has taken sharp paths that require intensifying efforts, dedicating work, and leaving side disputes among Muslims.

The recent developments in the Palestinian arena, especially in light of the continuation of the heroic intifada in the occupied lands and the decision to declare a Palestinian state in the last session of the National Council, require the support of the Islamic nation in order for the decision to become a reality on the ground, as this issue still faces a serious challenge by the enemies of the Islamic nation who seek To obliterate any positive development in this case.

The foreign ministers have a historical responsibility to support Iraq and Iran in their negotiations to find a final settlement in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 598, especially with the desire of both parties to end the suffering left by the war on the economy and the lives of the two peoples.

Also, the developments witnessed in the Afghan issue, the withdrawal of the Soviet forces, the declaration of the government of the Mujahideen, and the victories and successes they achieved on the political and military level require firm and positive positions from all Islamic countries to strengthen them.

All Islamic peoples are looking forward to this conference with full hope and optimism that it will produce results to enhance cooperation in various fields and provide the Islamic Ummah with more reasons for strength and real strength to face all challenges.
